Key Facts

This long, little-used route parallels the lower part of the Shira Route. Tanzania Escapade leads treks up the Lemosho Route. The Lemosho Route is an unspoiled, remote, little-used, and beautiful way up to the Shira Plateau. Above the plateau, you approach Kilimanjaro's great western Breach, and then follow the south circuit to reach the easier Barafu Route. This is one of the few routes where an armed ranger accompanies our groups, since there are still animals in the forest around the Lemosho Glades.

GRADUAL START AND REMOTE BEGINNING

Lemosho begins on the quieter western side of Kilimanjaro, offering a peaceful and less-traveled start through pristine rainforest. This remote approach increases the chance of spotting wildlife and provides a more tranquil trekking experience.

EXCELLENT ACCLIMATISATION PROFILE

With a longer itinerary and a gradual ascent, Lemosho gives climbers more time to adapt to altitude. Its climb-high, sleep-low approach improves acclimatisation and increases chances of a successful summit.

TENT CAMPING EXPERIENCE

Like the Machame Route, Lemosho requires climbers to sleep in tents at designated campsites. This supports a stronger connection with nature and builds a sense of self-reliance throughout the journey.

STUNNING AND VARIED LANDSCAPES

Trekkers on the Lemosho Route traverse a wide range of ecosystems, from rainforest and heath to alpine desert and glacier, culminating with a crossing of the dramatic Shira Plateau and views of the Southern Icefields.

HIGH SUMMIT SUCCESS RATE

Thanks to its longer duration and well-paced itinerary, Lemosho boasts one of the highest summit success rates of all Kilimanjaro routes. It balances physical challenge with effective altitude adjustment.
